I wear a smile like a crown
I'm always happy, and never frown
My aura shines bright as the sun
I'm the one who is honestly fun
My feet are light as I skip about
And sparkling eyes I am never without
But there is something that needs to be said
That is a mask I care not to shed
Everything is not what it seems
I'm not full of smiles and beams
Dark clouds cover the sun and blot out the light
And sometimes I cry myself to sleep at night
For the happiness is a mask that I must wear
Because there are many that truly care
I cannot lay my burdens on them
If I say the truth, they will be condemned
Sometimes the tears won't stop
Sometimes I'm so angry I feel that I'll pop
I cannot let others know this
I cannot seek their forgiveness
As I fall, I won't drag them down
I won't let them see my frown
Instead, when I see them, I'll put on that mask
So in my 'happiness' they may bask
Then, hopefully, their own problems will vanish
Even though my own demons I cannot banish
If I can help them, I will suffer in silence
I will take the burden of sadness and violence
And I will don this happy mask
And always, eternally, I will fulfill this task.

Literature
mask
She laughs because she can't cry.
Knowing what harm it does.
So she wears a mask,
That could best the jester's
With a smile carefully put in place,
She walks about her day
Under that mask a small girl cries.
Lost and lonely and ready to die
Huddled in a corner in the only light.
She watches the shadows,
as they creep closer.
She holds her hope,
In a silver locket that once was gold.
Clings to it in vain faith,
That one day she will be able to run from the shadows.
Knowing that it will never come true .
She watches over me and you.
Looking through the eyes of that smiling girl you see.
She laughs but with tears in her eyes
Literature
My Mask
I paint
My mask
Carefully .
Intricately sweeping
The paint
Across my
Face.
Not
Over doing it,
But not
Under doing it.
Hiding behind
The decorations
Isn't that bad,
It just takes
A lot
Out of me.
Literature
Behind a Mask
The face of a wolf
The face of a dog
The face of a cat
Or that of a wild tiger
The mask does not cover the face alone
No, it extends to the shoulders
It covers the arms
Stretches down the legs
Enlarges the hands and feet
It reaches to the tip of a limp sweeping tail
The mask is a body that encloses the individual inside
Covers the human that supports and drives it
Though, while unseen
Eyes forget about the Man
They see the suit
They recoil in disgust.
What they see is not human
A taboo, an act so unnatural
That it earns their scorn
Their frowns
Their biting insults and condemning, beating ridicule
The person ceases to be

Very sincere. Great musicality at the end.
